Hawkeye History: January 30, 1975

A group of students from the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity “kidnapped” Iowa City mayor Edgar Czarnecki and held him ransom for 5,000 cans of food to benefit Johnson County Social Services. Some observers panicked at the scene, but were assured that it was all in good fun.
