Dodging for Dreams

Congratulations to the PC Beaters for winning our first-annual S.T.A.T. Dodgeball Tournament, held in Kinnick Stadium yesterday. The event raised $3,000 to support Dance Marathon and the UI Children’s Hospital, and the nearly-300 participants had a great time despite the rain. Check out a gallery of photos from the event on Facebook, and we hope to see you next year!

Zach gave a special reading from his newly released book, My Two Moms: Lessons of Love, Strength and What Makes a Family. During his time at Prairie Lights, Zach also answered questions from a…

That Dam Woman

Our featured article this week from the February 2012 issue of Iowa Alumni Magazine profiles Jody Farhat, 82BSCE, who oversees dams along the Missouri River for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

“I’m confident we managed the flood (of 2011) well, but it’s hard to convince someone whose house has been destroyed,” she says.

The article is open to everyone at the link below…

President Obama Stops in Iowa City

President Barack Obama visited a capacity crowd of 5,500 at the Field House this afternoon to talk about the cost of higher education. Despite the sweltering conditions inside—which led to some attendees fainting—the line to get in stretched around the block of Melrose and Grand. The speech lasted around half-an-hour, during which the president called for Congress to…

Philanthropy at Work

Students and faculty may have noticed decorative touches around campus today to celebrate Phil’s Day, when philanthropy is recognized campus-wide. As part of the day’s events, buildings where generous giving has made an impact were adorned with bows, ribbons, and special “Phil Was Here” tape. Check out the UI Foundation for more information!

The UI set a date of March 1991 for the start of construction on the new College of Business building. The $33.5 million facility was notable for being built on the only remaining undeveloped plot of land on the main campus. The architects for the project limited the height of the structure to four stories to avoid visually overwhelming nearby…
