What will Iowa City entertainment planners think of next? In pursuit of a fun and different wintertime activity, the Downtown Association—in partnership with Big Ten Rentals—has placed a synthetic outdoor ice rink along a stretch of Iowa Avenue. Even though it’s almost 50 degrees in January, the warmer temperatures won’t impact the ice at all. So, if you’re in the area and looking for Friday night plans, come on down. The rink will be open until 10 p.m. tonight and opens again on Saturday at 10 a.m. (with free parking in Clock Tower ramp from 4 to 10 p.m.) Also on Saturday, stop by the downtown Sheraton for the “One Book, Two Book” celebration of children’s literature. Educators, librarians, authors, illustrators, publishers, parents, children’s book characters, and kids of all ages will gather to recognize the important role of literature in the development of literacy, imagination, and love for reading. Ice skating concludes at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Enjoy!!
