A brief look at event photography. What is it and how does it differ from other styles of photography such as portrait and Wedding.
Richard Hobson Photography covers events ranging from Wedding Receptions though to equestrian and more. Covering South Wales in the UK and beyond, in particular Cardiff, Caerphilly and Newport we offer print on site for guests to take away photographs on the day for an instant memory of the event.
So what is it?
For the purposes of this article I’m defining event photography as photography at an event whereby cutomers or guests can take away their photographs on the day printed on site.
This differs from Wedding photography in that the results are immediate. Guests take away the results of the session immediately. Usually a portable backdrop is used and a dye sublimation printer is used to produce the prints.
The results are gained “in camera” with zero or minimal post processingbefore the results are viewed and printed for customers.
Often further products are available through a web gallery allowing guests to purchase digital downloads, canvas prints, acrylics, keyrings and a whole host of other items depending upon the innovation of the photographer.
The type of events covered in this way are often Prom’s, Balls, Dinner Dances, Wedding Receptions, Birthdaysand other Fund Raising Events.
The concept of print on site also works very well for sporting and equestrian events. Competitiors can view their photographs and then take away a copy of them immediately. The quality often far exceeds what can be attained by the competitors firends and family due to the experience of the photographer and the equipment used, as well as often having the best location to capture the action.
