Sugar Grove Vineyards & Gathering Place

“Sugar Grove Vineyard and Gathering Place” is situated on 120 acres of fertile farmland amongst rolling hills. Though they no longer produce their own private label wines, they do offer a variety of premier Iowa wines and beer.

The acreage that encompasses the vineyards is replete with wildflowers, a pond and an 1870 grange hall.

In addition to wine tastings held in the historic grange building located on premise, the vineyard owner’s hosts unique special events year round. One of the vineyard’s special events is a favorable combination of wine tasting, history tour and gourmet dinner. Due to the size of the historic grange hall where the events are generally held, they tend to have an exclusive feel and sell out quickly.

Jasper County Historical Museum

The “Jasper County Historical Museum” features exhibits dedicated to exploring the history of the county and the Maytag Family legacy. The Maytag Family is credited with creating both Maytag appliances and the much desired “Maytag Blue Cheese.”

One of the most popular and visually striking museum displays is a 40 foot bass relief sculpture by Jasper County artisan, Herman Deaton. The sculpture provides a timeline of Jasper County history in stunning detail. Additional displays include an 1875 barn, 1930’2 Victorian home, blacksmith shop and over 8,000 artifacts in all.

As of now the “Jasper County Historical Museum” is open daily from 1:00 pm to 4:40 pm May through September and admission is free.
